Happy Weekend! Here’s our round up of the best events in the city this weekend. Our favourite picks this weekend are the Goulbourn Museum’s Christmas Market to kick off the holiday season and the annual Gift of Art Sale by Kanata Gallery.

Canadian Folk Music Awards – Taking place Saturday and Sunday, the Canadian Folk Music Awards finds its home in Ottawa this year. Visit the link for the full schedule and to buy tickets. Taking place at venues all over the city you’re sure to find one that will work for you!

Ottawa Adventure Film Festival – Taking place Saturday at the Mayfair Theatre from 12 noon to 3:00 pm. This will be the first adventure film festival of its kind in Eastern Canada. Tickets are $21.80.

Handel’s Messiah – Taking place Saturday evening at 7:30 pm at St. Matthews Church at 130 Glebe Avenue. This performance of Handel’s Messiah is well known throughout the city. Tickets are $40. This is a wonderful way to launch the Christmas season.

Old-Fashioned Christmas & Outdoor Artisan Market  – Taking place Sunday November 19 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Goulbourn Municipal Building this event celebrates local artisans throughout the area in the form of an old fashioned Christmas Market. This event is hosted by the Goulbourn Museum but has a change of venue this year as the museum undergoes renovations. A great event for the whole family, vendors at this year’s event will be selling a diverse array of handmade gift items including heirloom preserves, baked goodies, natural soaps and candles, stained glass, children’s clothing, toys, pottery, woodwork, jewelry, textiles, dog treats and more! Families can pose for a photo with Santa, pen letters to the North Pole with help from the Calligraphy Society of Ottawa, and try their hand at vintage holiday crafts. Enjoy free hot chocolate and apple cider, roast marshmallows by the fire, and buy warm comfort food from Pizza All’Antica for lunch!

Shrek the Musical: Orpheus Musical Theatre – There are still tickets left for this family friendly musical theater event at Centrepointe. Tickets range from $15 to $45. Taking place both Saturday and Sunday. The popular animation film becomes a hilarious musical.

Carp Christmas Gift Sale – Taking place on Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm at the Carp Agricultural Hall, this event showcases the work of local artisans. Loads of options for Christmas gifts plus pick up some early holiday baking and enjoy treats from local vendors.

The Gift of Art Show & Sale – Artists of the Kanata Gallery come together for the annual Gift of Art Sale taking place both Saturday and Sunday this weekend.Operated and programmed by the Kanata Civic Art Gallery Board of Management in partnership with the City of Ottawa, the gallery exhibits and promotes the sale of original works of art by its members. Join the many loyal followers and support this event, their annual signature event of the year.
