Ottawa’s 2016 Gold Plates Competition was yesterday evening and of course, we here at Evans Team with our love of food and Ottawa, LOVE the gold plates competition. There were some of our favourite chefs in this year’s competition including Marc Doiron of Town and Kevin Benes from Carben Restaurant (where we hosted an amazing Tasting Ottawa by the way, read all about it HERE).
The winner of the competition was Joe Thottungal of Ottawa’s famous Indian restaurant, Coconut Lagoon. His dish featured halibut poached in spiced oil, with fish curry crumbs, woodland mushroom aviyal and a lentil emulsion…my mouth is watering. I’ve had a love affair with Indian food for years now and find it difficult to find really, good authentic Indian cuisine so this is definitely on my “to-try” list.
Runner-up was Jamie Stunt of Soif, a wine and food bar in Gatineau that we have been dying to try! And third was Ottawa’s own Marc Doiron of Town.
